bearSue -- 6 week olds to 1 year olds
The bear room is made up of infants-6 weeks to 1 year-and some early toddlers-1 year to 1 ½ years. Our morning is busy with arrivals and free play until breakfast and then the learning begins! Learning through lay is so important at this stage of development and the kids take full advantage of the toys, manipulatives, and sensory opportunities available to them daily. We also spend time developing motor skills, and listening to many types of music, as well as reading many different stories. |
monkeyCathy -- 1 to 2 year olds
The monkey room is made up of children from 1 year to 2 ½ years, but most children are between the ages of 1 ½ years and 2 years old. In this classroom we focus on discovery and language development. Every day children participate in art activities, music, singing, listening to stories, fingerplays, and nursery rhymes. We also try to introduce the kids to sensory experiences such as playing with sand and playdough. Children are encouraged to develop pretend play skills and to learn new concepts through discovery in play. Age appropriate pre academic skills such as naming body parts, showing knowledge of sizes, and beginning number concepts. They also develop social skills such as sharing, talking to friends, being kind, and playing together. |
lionAmanda -- 4 to 5 year olds
I work in the monkey room or preschool room. Every morning we enter the room, have breakfast, then the fun begins. At group time we work on our shapes, colors, counting, and ABC’s. We also practice the Days of the Week and identifying our names. We also work on learning to spell our names. Our art projects, stories, and group discussions are planned out on our weekly lesson plan. Each project and activity is designed to help each child develop as an independent individual. |
giraffeFaye -- 2 to 4 year olds
Before the week begins plans are made to meet all children's levels and needs. Throughout the week we meet all domain standards to learning with; Health and Physical Development, Social and Emotional Development, Language and Communication Development, Approaches to Learning, and Cognition and General Knowledge. Every morning children are encouraged to explore before breakfast, and then we move on to shapes, colors, and counting before we eat. Throughout the day there are also times when children can sing interactive songs, and dances. A story is read to the kids, and throughout the year we keep up with monthly themes on the calendar. We will then do art projects, followed by going outside, and then lunch. After lunch we have nap time, and then we go outside and play until children are picked up. |
flamingoJudy -- 5 to 7 year olds
The oldest age group at the daycare are the school age kids, or the bus kids. I always try to find things to keep them busy and interested while we are learning. Until school starts, I help out wherever I am needed. It is so much fun to watch the kids grow as time goes on. When the school kids get back, we have snack, and then will do some sort of art project, and go outside. |
